Student DaysJuly 7 through August 6, 2026, Tuesday through Thursday
Vacation will not be approved during the scheduled summer program dates. Any time lost due to staff absences may result in termination from the summer program and/or a reduction in pay.
Position Overview- Special Education Teacher – Elementary, Middle, and High School Levels (ESY, 12‑Month, and Special Programs)
- Brick Mill Early Childhood Center – Teacher Stipend: $3,300
- Grades K‑1 – Spring Meadow Early Childhood Center – Teacher Stipend: $3,700;
Para Stipend: $2,000 - Old State Elementary – Teacher Stipend: $3,700;
Para Stipend: $2,000 - Cantwell's Bridge Middle School – Teacher Stipend: $3,700;
Para Stipend: $2,000 - Appoquinimink High School – Teacher Stipend: $3,700;

- Provides a safe and encouraging learning environment to meet the needs, interests, and abilities of all students.
- Maintains professionalism, confidentiality, and an atmosphere that promotes student learning.
- Establishes and maintains a positive, collaborative rapport and communication with students, school personnel, and parents.
- Establishes and maintains student control and discipline in the classroom, school premises, or during school activities by communicating expectations of appropriate behavior.
- Employs and implements a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation, and mutual respect consistent with district policies and procedures.
- Plans and uses classroom time effectively.
- Implements School Board and school‑based policies and procedures to uphold school regulations.
- Integrates technology in instruction.
- Communicates curriculum and student‑related information effectively in oral and written form.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Summer School Leaders.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Hold or be eligible for State of Delaware teacher certification in the subject matter to be taught.
- Strong skills in instructional and behavior management strategies appropriate for diverse learners.
- Must be proficient with technology and follow best practices for online instruction.
- Must have access to reliable internet from home site.
- Past satisfactory evaluations.
- Demonstrate knowledge of subject content, curriculum, methodology of effective teaching.
- Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs.
- Skilled in the use of multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents.
- Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications, excellent human relations skills.
- Safety Care Training preferred.
- Assists in providing a safe and encouraging learning environment to meet the students' needs, interests, and abilities.
- Provides support for students with emotional and behavioral needs.
- Plans accommodations and develops instruction to support individualized education plans.
- Collaborates with classroom teachers, clinicians, and behavior interventionists to foster a positive learning environment.
- Implements de‑escalation strategies and manages classroom behavior using safety care training strategies.
- Demonstrates professionalism, maintains confidentiality, accepts constructive feedback, and maintains an atmosphere that promotes student learning.
