Social Studies Teacher
Woodbridge Middle School is accepting applications for a Social Studies teacher. This is a full-time, 10-month, benefit-eligible teaching position. The Middle School Social Studies Teacher is responsible for providing engaging, standards-based instruction that promotes students' understanding of history, geography, civics, and economics. The teacher fosters critical thinking, civic responsibility, and cultural awareness through interactive lessons and inquiry-based learning experiences. The position requires the ability to build strong relationships with students, maintain a positive classroom environment, and collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and administrators to support student growth and achievement.
Due to the needs of the school, candidates with special education certification are preferred and should have the knowledge and skills to effectively support diverse learners through inclusive instructional practices and collaboration with special education staff.
Qualification Requirements:
- Must hold or be eligible for teaching certification in Social Studies for middle school, grades 6-8 in the State of Delaware
- Special Education certification is preferred
- Experience working with students with diverse learning needs and disabilities
- Strong knowledge of middle school social studies content
- Ability to design and implement differentiated instruction that meets the needs of all learners
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Passion for teaching and dedication to student success
- Ability to create an inclusive, respectful, and positive learning environment
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging social studies lessons aligned with state standards and school curriculum.
- Create and maintain a supportive, inclusive classroom environment where all students can succeed.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with IEPs, Multilingual Language Learners (MLL), and students requiring additional academic support.
- Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction as needed.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies, including hands-on labs, project-based learning, multimedia tools, and technology integration to enhance student engagement.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and staff regarding student progress, behavior, and any concerns.
- Attend faculty meetings, professional development workshops, and school events.
- Deliver targeted instruction to students with diverse learning needs, using evidence-based strategies tailored to individual abilities.
- Adapt lesson plans and materials to accommodate the learning styles and needs of students, ensuring inclusivity and access to the general education curriculum.
- Support the social and emotional growth of students through positive classroom management and the development of strong teacher-student relationships.
- Maintain a well-organized classroom and ensure a structured environment that supports learning for all students.
- For candidates holding special education certification:
Manage assigned special education caseloads, including developing, implementing, and monitoring Individualized Education Programs (IEPs); ensure compliance with federal, state, and district special education requirements; collect and maintain required documentation and progress-monitoring data; facilitate and participate in IEP meetings; collaborate with families and multidisciplinary teams; and provide specially designed instruction and case management services as assigned.
