Job Summary

The Toolpusher is tasked with the effective management and safe and efficient execution of the offshore project activities in accordance with statutory and company rules, regulations and objectives. They have a duty of care for all offshore project personnel. The Toolpusher has a liaison function with the Rig Superintendent, Vessel Master and Chief Engineer to ensure compliance with all appropriate Quality, Health, Safety and Environment policies and is responsible for all interfaces between Marine and Project activities.

They will liaise on a daily basis with the Rig Superintendent and Rig Manager for review of the project activities and agree daily work plans. The Toolpusher will assist the Rig Superintendent by coordinating onsite well operations activities, and ensuring that the operation is completed safely, in accordance with the approved Well program and Company policies & procedures. They will be conversant with all statutory requirements relating to Well Control and Well Intervention, with all personnel directly or indirectly involved with well operations conforming to the instructions issued by them.

They will liaise with the Rig Superintendent & Client representative regarding any changes to the approved well programme and communicate these changes to the Offshore Management team and Rig Manager. The Toolpusher will, if circumstances demand it, stand in as temporary Rig Superintendent.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Review, understand and comply with the Project Quality Plan/System.
  • Review, understand and comply with the Project Safety Management Plan/System and participate in setting worksite safety objectives and key performance indicators.
  • Review, understand and comply with Emergency Safety Plan and Bridging documentation between client and HdB Management systems.
  • Review, understand and comply with project procedures and equipment.
  • Review and understand project schedule and any constraints.
  • Review and understand principal project contract and commercial conditions.
  • Review, understand and comply with Project Inspection and Test Plan to ensure all necessary as‑built data is collected.
  • Review, understand and comply with HdB Management of Change system.
  • Active participation in Safe Job Analysis and Risk Assessments, ensuring identified risks are communicated to the offshore project personnel.
  • Review and understand roles and responsibilities of subcontractors and their liabilities.
  • Review and understand roles and responsibilities of third party personnel.
  • Liaise with Rig Superintendent, Vessel Master and Chief Engineer to ensure safety of all interfaces between project and marine operations.
  • Ensure appropriate risk assessment are undertaken, TBRA’s, SJA's, Toolbox talks and Time‑Outs.
  • Maintain close operational communication with the Rig Superintendent and Rig Manager.
  • Liaise with Client's Representative(s) and Company offshore representative and sub‑contractors onboard the vessel.
  • Ensure implementation of the Company’s health, safety and environment policy by all HdB employees and/or HdB subcontractors onboard the vessel.
  • Ensure vessel project safety meetings are convened and minuted in accordance with HdB Management System, also attendance at vessel safety meetings by the Toolpusher or his delegates.
  • Action any corrective measures raised by audits and/or inspections carried out by Client/Safety/QA personnel pertaining to personnel, procedures, the work site and supporting equipment.
  • Report safety incidents relating to project activities including their classification as per Company guidelines.
  • Report damage to internal and external plant using the appropriate quality system reports.
  • Ensure compliance with Company Policies within the HdB Management Systems.
  • Ensure that appraisals of personnel are conducted on a regular basis, training needs are identified and reported to the Rig Superintendent.
  • Review the company's Safety Notices on each occasion of joining the vessel.
