Location: Milford
The Controller is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial operations of the organization. This highly hands-on position requires both strategic thinking and day-to-day execution. The Controller will ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, strengthen internal controls, improve cash flow, and support leadership with timely, data-driven financial insights as the company continues to grow.
Direct ReportsAccounting and administrative team members, including accounts receivable, accounts payable/payroll, systems coordination, and administrative support roles.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Management- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting and administrative staff through coaching, regular meetings, and performance feedback
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Serve as a trusted business partner to leadership and internal stakeholders
- Address escalated financial and customer-related issues as needed
- Develop and execute financial strategies, including budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and operational efficiencies
- Act as a steward of company assets, ensuring financial discipline and sustainability
- Provide leadership with clear financial insights to support strategic decision-making
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, P&L, and cash flow reports
- Conduct financial analysis, forecasting, and modeling
- Coordinate with external accountants, tax advisors, and auditors
- Maintain responsibility for general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, fixed assets, depreciation, and reconciliations
- Monitor and manage cash inflows and outflows
- Oversee accounts receivable, collections, and credit limits
- Optimize liquidity while minimizing debt exposure
- Manage banking relationships and negotiate vendor pricing and payment terms
- Lead annual budget preparation and reforecasting
- Manage administrative budgets and support company-wide budgeting initiatives
- Analyze variances and provide actionable recommendations
- Establish, implement, and monitor accounting policies and internal controls
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including payroll and tax requirements
- Serve as liaison for audits and regulatory reviews
- Support risk management, insurance coordination, and compliance initiatives
- Oversee payroll processing and labor tax compliance
- Maintain payroll system data integrity
- Leverage accounting, ERP, and CRM systems to enhance reporting and efficiency
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA strongly preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting or financial leadership experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
- Experience working with accounting and ERP systems (Quick Books Online or similar preferred)
- Proven leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills
