Summary

Statement

This is an experienced level fiscal advisor position. The employee analyzes financial transactions and records, prepares financial statements and reports, and controls and accounts for funds. Within this role, the individual independently performs the full range of essential functions under general supervision and may supervise two or more merit full‑time paraprofessional or administrative support positions. Supervision responsibilities include planning, assigning, reviewing, evaluating, coaching, training, hiring, and discipline.

Functions
  • Reviews and analyzes financial transactions and records to ensure accuracy and monitors adherence to agency budgets, applicable agreements, grants, contracts, and relevant state or federal laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Analyzes, reconciles, and consolidates data to the general ledger from journals, records, and documents; prepares trial balances, makes corrections, updates, and adjustments to keep funds in balance, and maintains an audit trail.
  • Examines financial transactions, classifications, and codes to ensure accuracy and recommends corrections.
  • Maintains internal controls and applies accounting principles, practices, and standards.
  • Provides advice and technical guidance on matters in assigned fiscal functions.
  • Compiles, analyzes, and prepares a variety of financial statements and reports used in financial, budget, and personnel planning.
  • Researches and supplies data, reports, and documentation to state, federal, and independent auditors and to other requestors for financial information.
  • Utilizes commercial and proprietary automated information systems and computer software to research, review, evaluate, and report on financial data.
  • Delivers excellent customer service to internal and external customers and the public in person, electronically, or via written communication.
  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with people across cultures, ages, abilities, genders, ethnicities, and races.
  • May be responsible for purchasing, disbursement, and inventory of equipment and supplies.
Job Requirements
  • One year of experience compiling, analyzing, and reporting financial data to ensure effective accounting of funds or to project financial planning.
  • One year of experience ensuring compliance of financial transactions with budgets, agreements, grants, contracts, and applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Six months of experience researching and analyzing accounting transactions and records to reconcile discrepancies or errors and maintain an audit trail.
  • Coursework, training, or work experience in staff supervision, including leading teams and overseeing the work of others.
Conditions of Hire

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. A satisfactory criminal background check and pre‑employment drug testing are required as conditions of hire. Successful applicants are required to attend the Statewide New Employee Orientation (SNEO) on their first day of employment.
