Job Overview

Nemours Children’s Health, Becks Woods is seeking an Occupational Therapist (Full-Time) to join our outpatient program in Bear, Delaware.

We provide integrated, family-centered care to more than 280,000 children each year across Delaware, Florida, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Our outpatient program offers occupational therapy services to patients ranging in age from birth to 17, including early intervention partner with Delaware’s Birth to Three Early Intervention Program and clinic-based services.

Responsibilities

Provides occupational therapy patient examination, evaluation, intervention, documentation, parent/caregiver education, communication, and coordination of care with medical/clinical staff and outside agencies as appropriate within department and regional policies.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all ages: pediatrics, adolescents, and adults.
  • Able to provide occupational therapy services to a variety of patient types with recognition of own limitations while seeking appropriate mentorship as needed.
  • Completes timely documentation per departmental policy #7980.3.3, Joint Commission, and CARF standards.
  • Attends meetings related to patient treatment and contributes to discussion as an interdisciplinary team member.
  • Consults with other services, families, and outside agencies to recommend durable medical equipment, home/school modifications and transitional therapy programs prior to discharge.
  • Maintains knowledge of and familiarity with insurance referral/authorization process and documentation requirements related to therapy services.
  • Completes all mandatory training; may include, but is not limited to, safety, infection control, corporate compliance, HIPAA, bioterrorism, CPR, and program-specific respiratory training.
  • Participates in triage and coverage planning as necessary to meet patient care and departmental needs.
  • When required by assignment, participates in weekend/holiday inpatient coverage rotation, including checking the code blue cart per guideline #7980. GL.24.
  • Teamwork: participates in conflict identification and resolution; works cooperatively on multidisciplinary, single discipline, program-specific and specialty teams; assists in maintenance of department space and equipment.
  • Professional development: independently seeks to expand clinical knowledge and evidence-based practice through literature reviews, in-services, courses, and mentorships; may provide input on new treatment intervention strategies.
  • Based on programmatic need and licensure requirements, may be required to provide inpatient/outpatient coverage at various locations associated with Nemours.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy or its equivalent from an ACOTE-accredited university.
  • Minimum of three (3) to six (6) months experience; new graduates considered based on educational experiences.
  • State of Delaware Occupational Therapist License required upon hire.
  • Second license required for all clinical positions; must submit license or proof of application within 2 weeks of job acceptance (second license need not be active at start).
  • Hold dual licensure (DE, PA, NJ, MD); compact licensure acceptable for primary and secondary licensure with active home-state license in a Compact state.
  • PA clearances required if providing clinical care in PA locations.
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required within 6 months of date of hire and must be maintained.
  • Member of professional specialty organizations (AOTA, State Occupational Therapy Association) preferred.
  • Clinical affiliation and/or work experience in pediatrics preferred.
  • Experience with physically and/or mentally challenged populations preferred.
