Position: District Support Pharmacist Full Time

Job Purpose and Summary

District Support Pharmacists (DSPs) play a critical role in cultivating a culture of excellence within each pharmacy by acting as a role model for all. They support the management, oversight and operation of the pharmacy and pharmacy team, covering pharmacist scheduling gaps and acting as a Pharmacy Manager’s proxy during bench shifts.

Responsibilities
  • Live our purpose by managing and improving patient health through safe, appropriate dispensing, counseling and immunizing practices.
  • Travel the district to fill pharmacist shifts as scheduled by the District Performance Coordinator (DPC) and oversee the pharmacy as Pharmacy Manager’s proxy during bench shifts.
  • Ensure safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by following pharmacy workflow procedures and directing the pharmacy team to follow safety guardrails at every workstation.
  • Assume the Pharmacy Manager’s day‑to‑day duties when serving as the sole or primary pharmacist‑on‑duty.
  • Contribute to positive patient experiences by demonstrating empathy, genuine care and coaching the pharmacy team to do the same, including resolving insurance and medication issues.
  • Proactively offer and deliver immunizations, engaging Pharmacy Technicians in immunization training.
  • Support effective pharmacy inventory management, guiding the team to follow best practices and protecting cold‑chain products.
  • Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs while fostering a safe, inclusive and engaging team dynamic.
  • Maintain relevant clinical and technical skills, including required trainings and continuing medical education (CME), and seek opportunities to expand knowledge.
  • Support access to care and improve patient outcomes through pharmacist‑delivered clinical care such as testing and prescribing services (e.g., COVID/Flu, hormonal contraception) where permitted.
  • Understand and comply with all federal and state laws, regulations, professional standards, ethical principles, CVS Health policies and controlled substance dispensing and record‑keeping requirements to protect patient privacy and workplace safety.
Essential Functions
  • Ability to travel within a reasonable radius for staffing needs.
  • Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
  • Completion of required training within the designated timeframe.
  • Attention and focus to concentrate on tasks and pivot quickly between tasks.
  • Customer service orientation and friendly interaction with patients.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, active listening and effective questioning.
  • Mathematical reasoning for quantities, supplies and dispensing calculations.
  • Problem resolution skills for patient or colleague interactions.
  • Physical demands: mobility, lifting up to 20 lbs, standing for extended periods, reaching, typing and other repetitive hand tasks.
Physical Demands
  • Be mobile and remain upright for extended periods.
  • Lifting, scanning and bagging items up to 20 lbs, frequently up to 10 lbs.
  • Reach overhead or to low positions, bending at the waist, and moving items with arms and fingers.
  • Perform visual tasks requiring close inspection, such as reading small text on a computer terminal.
  • Exert force up to 20 lbs as needed, often with negligible force for light tasks.
  • Communicate and exchange ideas through spoken word accurately and receive detailed oral instructions.
Qualifications
  • Required: Active Pharmacist License in the state where the store is located.
  • Required: Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • Required: Not on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
  • Preferred: 1–2 years of related pharmacy, retail, medical or customer service experience.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is $60.00–$76.00 per hour, depending on experience, education, geography and other factors. The position is eligible for bonus, commission or short‑term incentive programs in addition to base pay.
