The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is a member of the clinical team that provides compassionate care and assistance to individuals who struggle with intellectual, developmental, and behavioral health challenges. The DSP helps individuals live independently and supports their wellness, health, and safety. The DSP collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to meet environmental, physical, psychosocial, and personal needs and supports the organization’s mission with compassion, hope, service, and collaboration.

• Assist with daily living activities, including meal planning and preparation, housekeeping, personal hygiene, and general cleaning.
• Support the independence and quality of life of individuals served.
• Model hope and optimism to help individuals reach their potential.
• Help individuals develop relationships and engage in their communities.
• Maintain a safe and supportive relationship and environment.
• Provide supervision and guidance to build skills and competence.
• Document interactions and activities per policies and procedures.
• Monitor and respond to crisis situations in line with best practices and organizational policies.
• Respond to crises using applicable skills and competencies.
• Report suspected incidents of neglect, abuse, or mistreatment per policies and procedures.
• Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to the organization’s ethical code.
• Assist in maintaining the well-being and safety of individuals served.
• May assist with daily medication administration.
• Deliver services with attention to consumer transportation to appointments, activities, programming, religious services, and family visits.
• Perform daily activities within home settings, including meal preparation, activities of daily living, shopping, and household tasks.
• Assist with community home licensing annually and home activities as prescribed by operating regulations. Develop and monitor ISP outcomes.
• Accurately complete required paperwork (e.g., medication logs, daily logs, incident reports, charts, logs, and related documentation).
• Accurately record hours worked in HRIS and clock in/out.
• Complete required training hours annually and complete competency-based training as needed.
• Attend scheduled home and office staff meetings and be available for shifts as scheduled, including on-call/emergency coverage as requested by the Residential Manager.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals residing in the home(s).
• Administer consumer medications when assigned.
• Collaborate with Lead DSP and Residential Manager to meet ISP needs; follow supervision requirements in ISP/BSP.
• Support the Residential Manager with special projects as needed and perform other duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent (required).
• Associate or Bachelor’s degree (preferred).
• Minimum 6 months to 1 year direct experience with individuals with intellectual disabilities or in a human services field.
• 3-year clean motor vehicle record and valid driver’s license.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; computer literacy including Microsoft Office, email, and time-recording.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care and ability to work with developmentally disabled individuals.
• Excellent documentation, judgment, problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with individuals with disabilities, families, coworkers, staff, supervisors, funding sources, and other social service personnel.
• Physical ability to perform job duties and supervise/assist individuals in the residential program; ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Schedule flexibility and stress tolerance; ability to recognize and calmly respond to crisis situations and security concerns.
• Completion of required training including CPR and First Aid.
