Job Overview

SURTASS Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Technician – Electronics/SONAR Technician. Amentum is seeking an Electronics or SONAR Technician to work aboard a government‑operated Surveillance Towed Array Sensory System (SURTASS) asset. Technicians will be on a 6‑month on / 6‑month off rotating mission.

• Perform operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting on all SURTASS mission equipment in accordance with the Periodic Maintenance Schedule (PMS) and other reference documents in support of fleet requirements.
• Assist in the deployment and retrieval of the towed array and other SURTASS operations.
• Complete basic qualification in SURTASS Operation Center and Array Operation positions.
• Assist the SURTASS Technical Advisor (STA) and program managers in compiling data, procedures, maintaining required records and logs, monitoring, and sending Naval Message Traffic.
• Maintain an accurate logistics inventory as provided by the Government and provide periodic updates.
• May be assigned COMSEC, logistics, 3M or safety collateral duties.
• Participate in Amentum and Government Compliance Training programs.
• Share common spaces over deployment periods and work closely with others in a small working area and shipboard environment.
• Cooperate with active‑duty military, defense contractors, and government personnel.

• Associate Degree in Computer Science, Electronics Technology, or graduate of US Navy Electronics “C” school or equivalent civilian Electronics Technical school dealing directly with maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of VME computers, digital computers, microprocessors or peripheral/interface equipment, networks, communications system, navigation system and/or sonar system.
• DoD 8140 IAT Level
  
  II and Operating System certification upon start.
• Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification or equivalent.
• Proficiency with network computers and familiarity with operational schematics and maintenance publications.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to perform assigned taskings.
• Valid U.S. passport in an expeditious manner.
• Pass a Mariner’s Physical per COMSCINST 6000.1C and maintain medical fitness.
• Secret Clearance required and ability to complete government background investigation and meet eligibility requirements to obtain Top Clearance.

• Three (3) years of practical hands‑on experience in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of at least one of the following: VME computers, networks, digital computers, microprocessors, communications systems, navigation systems, and/or sonar systems.
• Surveillance Towed Array Sensory System (SURTASS) mission system background.
• Experience with EKMS/COMSEC Super High Frequency (SHF) communications (e.g., WSC‑6, WSC‑3, CBSP, Intellian systems).

$56,000 and up DOE. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
