Summary Statement

The Delaware Department of Justice (DOJ) is seeking an exceptional and highly motivated individual for the Family Division, to serve in the Child Support Unit in New Castle County as a Deputy Attorney General. The primary responsibility is to represent the Division of Child Support Services in establishing paternity, establishing and enforcing orders for support, collecting support arrears, and providing general guidance.

This position has a high-volume caseload with daily litigation and appellate opportunities. A qualified candidate should work independently, evaluate cases, meet deadlines, anticipate legal issues, and research accurately. Candidates must have the ability to learn and apply relevant laws, rules of evidence, and court rules, and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Related experience in Family Court is preferred.

The role will require some statewide travel. Membership in the Delaware Bar is not required; applicants must be eligible for limited admission pursuant to Supreme Court Rule 55. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, integrity, commitment to public service, and flexibility with casual/seasonal employment terms. This is a casual seasonal position that is non‑pension‑eligible and does not include health care or other benefits.

The position is approved to work up to 37.5 hours per week and is paid on an hourly basis for hours worked.

The Deputy Attorney General in this unit will represent the Division of Child Support Services to establish paternity, establish and enforce orders for support, collect support arrears, and provide guidance and assistance. The position involves a high-volume caseload, daily litigation and appellate work, appearing in Family Court, preparing legal filings and briefs, conducting legal research, negotiating settlements, managing complex family law matters, and collaborating with agency staff.

Qualified candidates should have prior criminal and general counsel experience, demonstrate proactive problem-solving, work independently, meet deadlines, communicate clearly, and possess thorough knowledge of relevant laws and court rules. Membership in the Delaware Bar is required.
