Introduction

Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.

Summary

Statement

In the Civil Division, approximately 80 attorneys provide legal support to the executive branch agencies in the form of general counsel advice, administrative hearing prosecutions, board representation, and all stages of civil litigation. The Delaware Department of Justice, Civil Division, Affiant Litigation Unit, New Castle County is looking for a highly motivated and committed Deputy Attorney General to (1) serve as general counsel to the Unemployment Insurance Appeal Board (UIAB), (2) serve as general counsel to the Family and Medical Leave Insurance Appeal Board (FMLIAB) and (3) administratively prosecute profession licensees who violate the laws of their professions.

Essential Functions

As UIAB and FMLIAB general counsel, the DAG will review appeals to the Boards for timeliness, attend hearings and provide legal advice during the hearings, draft decisions and orders, perform legal research, represent the Boards in appeals to the Superior Court, and assist with other legal matters as needed. As an administrative prosecutor, the DAG is on the front line of protecting the public from unprofessional conduct and will appear before the boards and commissions that regulate professional conduct pursuant to Title 24 of the Delaware Code.

The DAG will present evidence in adversarial proceedings to prove allegations of the professional misconduct and seek disciplinary sanctions.

Job Requirements

The DAG must have strong legal writing skills. The DAG must be able to anticipate and properly address legal issues, conduct accurate and effective legal research and provide sound legal advice. The DAG must be able to work independently, meet deadlines, and develop good working relationships with board members, other DAGs and support staff. Membership in the Delaware Bar is required.
