Position Focus:
Donor Engagement & Digital Strategy
The Director of Development and Community Engagement is a strategic partner to the Executive Director, responsible for expanding SDTR's donor base, strengthening community partnerships, and elevating the organization's visibility. This role leads donor cultivation and stewardship, drives digital and online fundraising initiatives, and creates compelling content that communicates SDTR's mission and impact to diverse audiences.
Key Responsibilities Fundraising & Donor Development- Pipeline Management: Build and manage a diversified donor pipeline including individuals, corporations, and community foundations.
- Stewardship: Develop and execute plans to increase donor retention, annual giving, and support major gift identification.
- Grants & Partnerships: Assist with grant prospecting, research, narrative writing, and compliance reporting.
- Corporate Support: Manage corporate sponsorship outreach, relationship building, and fulfillment for events.
- Content Creation: Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy using compelling, donor-focused storytelling (stories, videos, graphics).
- Digital Campaigns: Plan and execute integrated digital fundraising campaigns (e.g., Giving Tuesday, Do More
24, peer-to-peer initiatives). - Online Platforms: Manage email marketing campaigns, digital newsletters, website updates, and utilize digital advertising tools (e.g., Google Ads Grants).
- Traditional Events: Lead the digital marketing and online components of traditional fundraising and special events.
- Content Creation: Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy using compelling, donor-focused storytelling (stories, videos, graphics).
- Digital Campaigns: Plan and execute integrated digital fundraising campaigns (e.g., Giving Tuesday, Do More

- Traditional Events: Lead the digital marketing and online components of traditional fundraising and special events.
- Brand Integrity: Ensure consistent branding, messaging, and tone across all digital platforms, newsletters, and donor communications.
- Community Presence: Represent SDTR at community events, civic groups, and partner organizations to strengthen regional relationships.
- Content Gathering: Collaborate closely with program staff to gather authentic participant stories, photos, and impact data.
- CRM Management: Maintain accurate donor records, manage the donor database, and ensure timely acknowledgments.
- Analytics: Track and analyze donor engagement, campaign performance, and social media metrics to provide regular reports.
- Leadership: Coordinate with Board committees (Development, Events) and lead/mentor volunteers or interns supporting development tasks.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, nonprofit management, or a related field.
- Experience: 2+ years of experience in donor development, fundraising, communications, or social media marketing (nonprofit experience preferred).
- Technical
Skills:
Proficiency with social media scheduling tools, photo/video editing, and donor management software/CRMs. - Communication: Exceptional writing, digital storytelling, and presentation skills.
- Traits: A creative, self‑motivated starter who is highly organized, possesses strong time‑management skills, and maintains a "donor and volunteer service" mentality.
- Mission‑Driven: A genuine passion for SDTR's mission to improve the physical and emotional well‑being of individuals living with disabilities through equine‑assisted therapy.
