Patient Care RN - Acuity Adaptable​/Ortho Surgical

Bayhealth Medical Center is Central and Southern Delaware’s healthcare leader with hospitals in Dover and Milford, as well as a stand‑alone Emergency Department in Smyrna and a hybrid Emergency Department and Urgent Care in Milton. The Kent Campus is 90 minutes from Philadelphia, Washington DC and Baltimore. The Sussex Campus is 30 minutes to the Delaware beaches.

General

Summary:

The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care to patients within an assigned unit with a commitment to quality and safety. Professional nursing practices, requiring specialized knowledge, judgment and skill are performed following hospital policy, procedures and nursing philosophy.

• Provide direct, professional nursing care to specified population of patients in the acute care setting.
• Develop a patient‑centered plan of care based on individualized needs.
• Maintain confidentiality of the patient medical record.
• Counsel and educate patients and their care partner on treatment plans.
• Administer medication following the five rights of medication administration.
• Provide wound care and dressing changes, as applicable.
• Read and interpret patient information, making treatment decisions when appropriate.
• Consult with physicians to decide on best treatment decisions when appropriate.
• Perform nursing interventions to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
• Observe and record patient behavior and response to nursing interventions.
• Demonstrate quality, safe and effective patient care.
• Provide delegation to unlicensed assistive staff and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) staff.
• Demonstrate standards of excellence which includes practicing nursing with core values of compassion, accountability, respect, teamwork and integrity.
• Demonstrate understanding and execute quality and performance improvement plans (only for RN evaluation).
• Participate in decision making and take actions based on ethical principles (only for RN evaluation).
• Provide timely and accurate documentation of patient care.
• Perform all other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.

• Education:
  
  Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma.
• Credential(s):
  Registered Nurse;
  Basic Life Support plus ACLS/PALS may be required per manager’s direction and timeframe. Commit to seeking specialty certification within the time frame indicated during interview.
