Shift: Nights SALARY RANGE: 18.27 - 27.40 HOURLY General Summary

The Nursing Assistant III will serve as a senior member of our Nursing Assistant staff. Under the direction of the unit manager and Clinical Coordinator, will routinely assist in training and guiding new Bayhealth Nursing Assistants. The promotional opportunity is available exclusively to Bayhealth team members. Department team members are authorized to have limited access to secured medication rooms to perform duties and responsibilities as defined in this job description.

Any staff member requiring limited access to secured medication rooms must have a fully completed and signed Medication Security Agreement for Non‑Licensed Personnel form on file and available upon request.

Responsibilities
  • Follows nursing assistant plan of care established by the Registered Nurse within a specified timeframe; including, but not limited to, mouth care, bathing, AM and PM care, assistance with ambulation, transfers to chair and/or bed, taking and documenting vital signs, and recording accurate intake and output. Documents all patient care delivered according to established policies and procedures.
  • Performs duties with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served on the assigned units.
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Communicates relevant patient information to a professional nurse within an appropriate time based on the level of urgency. Report problems immediately to a professional nurse.
  • Answer intercom or call lights in a timely, courteous manner, with appropriate communication to the patient and/or professional nurse.
  • Performs patient care based on established guidelines for diagnostic and therapeutic exams, i.e., NPO for labs or x‑rays, OR, diet changes related to tests, enema‑related tests.
  • Perform safety and suicide precaution sitter duties as assigned.
  • Assists other members of the nursing team and/or ancillary departments as requested.
  • Assist with maintaining unit inventory and supply orders.
  • Mentorship duties include, but are not limited to: precepts new staff, acts as resource for Nursing Assistant I and Nursing Assistant IIs, attends leadership training classes as appropriate.
  • Education tasks include but are not limited to: partnering with the unit‑based Nursing Professional Development team member on goal setting and education for the unit’s Nursing Assistants, completing annual continuing education to remain current in role, and providing nursing assistant‑level education on the unit.
  • Professional Governance Engagement activities include but are not limited to: unit organizational committee involvement, assisting with the unit schedule of nursing assistants on the unit, and assisting with audits as appropriate.
  • All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience
  • Education:

    High School Diploma or GED
  • Credential(s):
    Certified Nursing Assistant;
    Basic Life Support;
    Must hold an active CNA certification and be listed on the State of DE CNA registry (or Maryland GNA registry) in good standing.
  • Experience:

    Required:

    Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience working as a Nursing Assistant. Requires at least one (1) year working as a Bayhealth Nursing Assistant (or Bayhealth ED Tech), during which time the employee has successfully and consistently demonstrated competency in all duties & responsibilities of a Bayhealth Nursing Assistant.
