The Delaware County District Library is hiring a full-time Outreach Librarian. This position focuses on providing programming and reference services to library patrons, matching their information/entertainment needs to available resources.
Key Responsibilities- Developing and evaluating programming needs and services
- Providing direct services to patrons (daycares, senior care facilities, area schools, and home delivery patrons)
- Maintaining the collection
- Driving Outreach Department vehicles
- Serving as the customer relations contact and community outreach representative
Work schedule:
Monday – Friday; however, the schedule may change as the needs of the Library and Department change. Salary range for this exempt position is $51,048 to $76,572, depending on qualifications. This position will be open until filled.
Job Responsibilities
Reporting to the Outreach Manager, the Outreach Librarian provides programming and reference services to Library patrons; matching information and entertainment needs to available print, digital, and online resources. Develops, plans, and evaluates programming and services. Patrons include, but are not limited to: daycares, senior care facilities, area schools, and home delivery patrons.
Minimum Qualifications- MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution is required.
- Two to three years’ relevant experience required, preferably in a library setting.
- Ability to load, unload, lift, shelve, transfer, and/or transport materials up to 125 lbs. is required.
- Ability to work days, evenings, and weekends is required. The schedule may change as the needs of the Library change.
- The ability to travel between Library locations as needed is required.
- Regular and predictable physical attendance is required.
- Must possess a valid State of Ohio Driver’s License and acceptable driving record, with constant maintenance of eligibility to operate motor vehicles under the acceptability stands of the vehicle liability insurance carrier of the Library.
- Must satisfactorily complete a background investigation.
- Strong grasp of the principles of library and information science.
- Knowledge of Library practices and trends in services.
- Knowledge of current Library computing practices, standards, and equipment.
- Familiarity with a wide range of research methods and tools.
- Ability to devise and execute effective searches using the Library’s catalog, subscription databases, and online resources.
- Knowledge of Library services for adults.
- Knowledge of early literacy initiatives for children.
- Knowledge of developmental stages of children (i.e., ages birth through teen).
- Knowledge of Library services for teens.
- Familiarity with children's and teen books and authors
- Ability to talk and work with patrons of all ages.
- Ability to lead a team and/or workshop.
- Ability to teach and/or clarify tasks to support staff.
- Ability to coordinate Library programs, services, and projects.
- Extensive knowledge of the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system.
- Knowledge of and location of Library materials.
- Knowledge of and understanding of the Outreach Department service boundaries.
- Ability to address and resolve patron conflicts.
- Ability to multitask and shift priorities as required.

- Provides direct service to patrons (i.e., phone, in-person, computer lab, drive-through, curbside, information desk, readers’ advisory, virtual).
