Job Title: Director of Youth Ministry
Parish: St. Mary Catholic Church
Location: Delaware, Ohio
Reports To: Pastor / Director of Evangelization
Status: Part Time
Hourly range: $18.00-$20.00

The Director of Youth Ministry pastoral leader responsible for developing and directing a vibrant youth ministry program for middle school and high school youth. This role fosters discipleship, faith formation, and engagement among youth and their families. The Director works collaboratively with the Pastor, parish staff, volunteers, and families to advance the mission of St. Mary Catholic Church in alignment with diocesan guidelines.

Works closely with the Director of Evangelization and CGS Coordinator.

Job Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, maintain, and regularly evaluate a comprehensive youth ministry program for middle school and high school youth that emphasizes discipleship, prayer, catechesis, service, and active parish involvement.
  • Build relationships with youth and their families, creating pathways for deeper engagement in the life of the parish.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and support youth ministry staff, catechists, volunteer leaders, and sponsors.
  • Collaborate with the broader faith formation team, clergy, and parish staff to integrate youth ministry into the overall life of the parish.
  • Participate in deanery, diocesan, and regional youth ministry initiatives and maintain relationships with other youth ministry leaders.
  • Educate the parish community on the importance of youth ministry and the role of the entire community in forming young disciples.
  • Prepare and manage the annual youth ministry budget with sound stewardship.
  • Provide resources, training, and ongoing formation for all youth ministry volunteers and leaders.
Qualifications and Requirements Faith & Character
  • Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with a vibrant faith life and a strong witness to Church teachings.
  • Active member of a Catholic parish with a passion for youth and sacramental ministry.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree preferred) in Theology, Religious Education, Pastoral Ministry, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in youth ministry and/or sacramental preparation in a parish setting.
  • Certification in Youth Ministry from an accredited national program is strongly preferred.
  • Catechist certification through the Diocese of Columbus (or willingness to obtain) is required.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong interpersonal, teaching, public speaking, and relational skills with the ability to connect with youth, parents, and adults.
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office/Google Workspace and comfortable with parish database systems.
  • Experience with volunteer recruitment, training, and supervision.
  • Solid understanding of Catholic sacramental theology and youth ministry principles.
Additional Requirements
  • Availability for regular evening and weekend work (youth events, sacrament classes, retreats, liturgies). Flexible schedule.
  • Successful completion of BCI&I background check and Protecting God’s Children (VIRTUS) training prior to employment.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing professional and faith formation.
Physical & Work Environment

This is a Light Work position requiring the ability to move about the parish campus, set up for events, and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds. The role involves significant evening and weekend hours, particularly during liturgical seasons (Advent, Lent, Easter).
