The selected candidate will be placed in the classification in which they meet minimum qualifications. Transportation Engineer 1 or 2 hires will complete ODOT’s Transportation Civil Engineering Program, including a 12‑month training plan and scheduled rotations through Planning & Engineering, Construction, and Highway Maintenance.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering. For Transportation Engineer 1: acceptance for the Basic Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (EIT exam) by the Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors. For Transportation Engineer 2: valid Engineer‑In‑Training certificate issued or accepted as equivalent, plus 12 months experience as a Transportation Engineer 1, or bachelor’s degree plus 2 years engineering‑related experience. Equivalent minimum class qualifications may substitute the required experience, but not for the mandated registration.
AdditionalEmployment Information
Position is overtime eligible based on FLSA standards. All bargaining unit new hires must serve a one‑year probationary period. Position will be filled pursuant to the provision of the OCSEA/AFSCME Contract.
