Title:

School Health Aide (5.5 Hours with 30 minute unpaid lunch)
Qualifies for SERS Retirement/Life Ins/Vision Ins

Step 0 $ 20.41
Approx 20.41 x 182 x 5.5 = $20430.41 / 24 pays = $851.26 per pay

Reports to:

Building Administrator and District Health Provider

Position Goal:
Administer all noontime medications, examine and treat any illnesses/injuries, and maintain records concerning student health information

Terms of Employment:
Follows student attendance schedule, hours vary per year due to need

Evaluation:
One cumulative, written evaluation per year by Building Administrator with input from the District Health Provider

Job Responsibilities
  • Administers oral medications and maintains logs as instructed by the District Health Provider
  • Performs head lice screenings and reports any students who have head lice to the nurse and principal
  • Provides support to students who are diabetic by monitoring blood sugar levels, calculating insulin dosages for shots and giving shots as needed
  • Assists the District Health Provider in making calls to parents/follows-up on any long-term absences due to illness, head lice, etc...
  • Completes incident reports/logs and makes calls to parents reporting student illness or injury
  • Examines, treats and reports injuries that may occur when the District Health Provider is not in the building
  • Updates/maintains student health and immunization records including information for current students as well as for new students (and contacts former schools when needed)
  • Conducts appropriate follow up activities to failed screenings (re-screening, parent follow-up (call/letter/email), teacher/principal notification)
  • Assists with entering ALL annual health information from emergency forms and any screening results Vision/Hearing/Scoliosis) in the student information system and reports unique and life-threatening health situations to pertinent staff
  • Implement student health service plans as directed by the District Health Provider
  • Other duties as assigned
COVID-19 Specific Responsibilities
  • Implement hand washing and sanitizing protocols established by the District Health Provider
  • Implement COVID-19 screening protocols for staff, students, and visitors entering the building, if recommended by the District Health Provider
  • Follow protocols established by District Health Provider for the assessment and treatment of staff and students who exhibit common COVID-19 symptoms at school

  • Other yearly trainings as assigned
