Position Overview

The Humane Society of Delaware County (HSDC) seeks a dynamic, visionary, and externally focused Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the organization into its next phase of growth and impact. This is a highly visible leadership role centered on advocacy, community engagement, and fundraising to advance HSDC’s vision of a modern Animal Rescue Facility — a one-stop shop for animals and people in Delaware County.

The CEO will serve as the chief spokesperson, chief fundraiser, and chief executive, responsible for building broad-based community support and leading a $4–6 million capital campaign to fund the development of a new facility. Working in close partnership with the Board of Directors, the CEO will set strategic direction, establish organizational policy, and ensure long-term financial sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

Vision, Advocacy, and Community Leadership

Serve as the primary public ambassador and voice of HSDC.

Articulate and champion the vision for a comprehensive Animal Rescue Facility.

Build strong relationships across Delaware and surrounding Counties.

Fundraising and Capital Campaign Leadership

Lead and execute a $4–6 million capital campaign.

Engage in major gift cultivation and solicitation.

Recruit and manage fundraising committees and volunteers.

Partner with the Board to expand donor networks.

Board Relations and Governance

Work collaboratively with the Board to establish priorities, policies, and financial goals.

Support Board recruitment and engagement.

Provide transparent reporting on progress and performance.

Organizational Leadership and Management

Provide overall leadership and direction for HSDC.

Supervise and support the Operations Manager, Finance Manager, & Veterinarian.

Foster a positive, mission-driven culture.

Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.

Strategic and Financial Oversight

Partner with the Board to develop and monitor budgets.

Ensure responsible stewardship of resources.

Identify opportunities for sustainable growth.

Qualifications and Experience

Proven nonprofit leadership experience.
Demonstrated success in major gift fundraising and capital campaigns.
Exceptional public speaking and relationship-building skills.
Experience working with a volunteer Board.
Passion for animal welfare and community service.

Reporting Relationship

The CEO reports directly to the Board of Directors and supervises the Operations Manager.
