AVP Community Wellness Intern (Rehire Only Position)

The Associate Vice President (AVP) of Student Wellness is seeking student interns to support initiatives that promote holistic well-being across the Ohio Wesleyan University community. Student Wellness focuses on five interconnected areas:
Physical Wellness, Mental Health, Financial Wellness, Spiritual Wellness, and Cultural Wellness.

Student interns will work closely with the AVP of Student Wellness on research, programming, campus events, outreach, and collaborative projects designed to strengthen student well-being and engagement.

As a Student Wellness Intern, you will gain valuable personal and professional skills, including event planning, marketing and promotion, budget management, research, communication, and organization. Interns will also develop a deeper understanding of holistic wellness and how physical, mental, financial, spiritual, and cultural factors contribute to the student experience.

This position provides opportunities to build meaningful relationships with students, alumni, faculty, staff, and campus and community partners.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Assist the AVP of Student Wellness with research related to Physical Wellness, Mental Health, Financial Wellness, Spiritual Wellness, and Cultural Wellness.
  • Locate evidence-based research through library systems, journal databases, and other reliable resources.
  • Catalog and organize research findings and wellness resources.
  • Research best practices and emerging approaches to supporting college student wellness. Assist with planning and coordinating wellness programs, workshops, campaigns, and campus events.
  • Maintain event and programming calendars.
  • Help develop and distribute messaging and promotional materials to the campus community. Assist with event logistics, including contracts, reservations, supplies, setup, operation, and cleanup.
  • Communicate with campus departments, student organizations, and community partners regarding collaborative projects.
  • Attend meetings and present research findings or project updates when appropriate.
  • Help create a welcoming and supportive environment within Student Wellness spaces.
  • Answer general questions and connect students with appropriate campus resources.
  • Promote awareness of resources related to the five areas of Student Wellness.
  • Assist with maintaining Student Wellness websites and online resources.
  • Support social media, marketing, and other outreach efforts.
  • Assist with general office organization and administrative responsibilities.
  • Collect student feedback and assist with evaluating wellness programs and initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the AVP of Student Wellness.

Qualifications/

Skills:

  • Full-time OWU student in good academic standing
  • Work-study eligibility preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate well with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Interest in student wellness, student engagement, and community building
  • Willingness to learn about all five areas of Student Wellness:
    Physical, Mental Health, Financial, Spiritual, and Cultural Wellness
  • Familiarity with visual design and content creation software
  • Familiarity with library systems and journal databases
  • Basic research and information-gathering skills
  • Event planning and coordination skills or an interest in developing them
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and appropriate confidentiality when working with wellness-related information

This internship provides students with hands-on experience that can transfer to a wide variety of careers and graduate programs. Interns will have opportunities to develop skills in research, leadership, communication, event planning, marketing, program development, project management, community engagement, and collaboration.

Experience working across the five dimensions of Student Wellness can be especially valuable for students interested in future careers in higher education, student affairs, public health, healthcare, counseling and mental health services, social work, financial education, nonprofit organizations, community engagement, diversity and inclusion, human resources, wellness programming, communications, and program management.

Interns will also have opportunities to build meaningful professional relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners while gaining experience working within a university administrative environment.
