Neuroscience Program Research Assistant

The Neuroscience Program is seeking a dependable, motivated, and intellectually curious student to help care for laboratory mice and to assist with data analysis. The position will involve TA work for the Behavioral Neuroscience lab class, data analysis for the SCAMPUR lab, and administrative tasks for the Neuroscience Program. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain professional experience in handling and caring for laboratory animals.

As a research assistant, you will gain the knowledge and skills to develop and carry out your own behavioral neuroscience project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in checking on the food, water, and health status of mice
  • Work with another student to perform cage changes and maintain the vivarium
  • Score mouse behavior videos and analyze images of mouse brain tissue using ImageJ for the SCAMPUR lab
  • Assist in setting up and maintaining lab equipment
  • Clean glassware and maintain chemical inventory records
  • Create documents and/or help organize events for the Neuroscience Program

Qualifications:

  • Must be a current student, preferably with interest in Neuroscience or Psychology
  • A willingness to handle mice and interest in learning about research involving animal models
  • Reliable, meticulous, and able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Preference will be given to first- and second-year students interested in carrying out a research project in the future, but all interested current students are encouraged to apply

Work Schedule:

  • Flexible hours between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM that will accommodate class schedules. Some availability on weekends is helpful for animal care.
