Ohio Wesleyan University
, a selective, private, undergraduate liberal arts, residential institution founded in 1842 and located just 20 miles north of Columbus, is seeking dynamic, skilled candidates for the position of Electrician
. This is a full‑time, hourly position.

Responsibilities

This individual reports directly to the Electrical Trades Supervisor and is responsible for installing, testing, and servicing electrical light and power distribution circuits, equipment, appliances, fire alarm systems, and other related electrical services at the University. The position also includes testing and maintaining life safety systems such as fire alarm systems and devices, egress lighting, fire extinguishers, elevator emergency phones, and other tasks that are code required.

Accurate record keeping is required.

Qualifications / Skills
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Seven years of previous experience with commercial/industrial electric work or completion of a four‑year apprenticeship is required.
  • A valid Ohio Driver's License is required.
  • Independent judgment with ability to work from blueprints or sketches.
  • Knowledge of electrical codes and standards written by the National Electrical Code, National Fire Protection Agency (Articles 70 & 72), OSHA requirements, and safe practices associated with the trade.
  • Ability to lift and handle weights common to the trade and work at heights up to 35 feet from a scaffold or ladder.
  • Ability to be on an emergency call‑in rotation schedule.
Factors Contributing to Success
  • Thorough knowledge of methods, tools, and practices used in the electrical trade.
  • Thorough knowledge of hazards and safety precautions specific to the trade.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with others.
  • Excellent visual acuity and skill in interpreting technical literature, blueprints, drawings, and manufacturer instructions.
  • Knowledge of life safety systems, fire alarms, emergency backup systems and applicable codes.
Working Conditions
  • May perform work in all University facilities and may be exposed to chemicals, gases, electrical shock; work may be in confined spaces on ladders.
