Position Summary
The Yard Technician is responsible for maintaining an organized, safe, and operational yard environment that supports daily field operations. This role ensures crews have the equipment, materials, and staging support required to start each day prepared and productive.
The Yard Technician plays a critical role in supporting the Landscape Maintenance, Enhancement, and Construction divisions by assisting with equipment readiness, material staging, yard organization, and fleet support.
This position requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment supporting multiple crews.
Core ResponsibilitiesYard Operations
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard and shop environment
- Organize staging areas for materials and equipment
- Load and unload trucks, trailers, and deliveries
- Manage yard inventory and material storage
- Coordinate equipment and material staging for next-day work orders
Crew Dispatch Support
- Assist with morning dispatch readiness (goal: crews dispatched by 7:10 AM)
- Ensure equipment is staged and accessible for crews
- Verify trailers are properly loaded with required equipment
- Communicate shortages or issues to division managers
Equipment & Fleet Support
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment and vehicles
- Perform basic maintenance tasks such as:
- fueling
- greasing
- cleaning equipment
- tire pressure checks
- Assist mechanics with small equipment repairs
- rack equipment issues and report them for service
Material Handling
- Receive and organize material deliveries
- Stage materials for upcoming jobs
- Assist project managers with loading construction materials
- Maintain mulch, soil, and bulk material areas
Inventory Support
- Track commonly used materials and supplies
- Alert management when inventory runs low
- Assist with equipment tracking and organization
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain OSHA-compliant yard conditions
- Ensure equipment storage and traffic flow are safe
- Support snow and ice operations when required
Experience
- 1–3 years in landscaping, construction, fleet support, or warehouse operations preferred
Skills
- Basic mechanical aptitude
- Ability to operate small equipment (mowers, skid loaders preferred)
- Forklift experience preferred
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds regularly
- Valid driver's license required
Preferred
- Landscaping or construction industry experience
- Familiarity with commercial landscaping equipment
- CDL or ability to obtain
