Job Description
An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Although every NVA hospital is unique, they all share a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a dedication to exceptional service to animals and the people who love them.
Responsibilities- Gather patient histories
- Perform physical examinations
- Create treatment plans
- Conduct diagnostics
- Provide dentistry services
- Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures
- Manage patients medically
- Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients
Externship durations range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships at State Street Animal Clinic are designed for clinical year students and may include housing for out‑of‑town students. Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. The stipend amount for State Street Animal Clinic is $1,000.
