Nutrition Services Assistant – 5 hours per day – West Seaford Elementary School ()
Position PurposeUnder the direct supervision of the cafeteria manager or supervisor, assist in maintaining an orderly and safe atmosphere in the cafeteria and other designated locations by helping and supervising students at mealtime.
Qualifications / Requirements- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Able to read, write, and perform simple arithmetic.
- Willing to complete Units I through IV of the School Food Service Training Program within three years (Serve Safe certification highly recommended).
- Neat appearance and adherence to dress code.
Perform responsibilities to assure that students and staff are served appetizing and nutritious meals in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness, and friendliness.
Physical & Mental Demands- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Work in cold, hot, and humid environments.
- Manual dexterity and ability to work under pressure.
- Work in standard school cafeteria environment and outdoor weather.
Preparation
- Assist with preparation of food including entrees, baked goods, desserts, salads, sandwiches, or other items under direction of manager or cook.
Serving
- Deliver and distribute breakfast meals to arriving students.
- Supply and restock the serving line with food and supplies.
- Practice positive customer service with meals to students and adults.
- Keep line moving smoothly and swiftly.
- Keep serving areas and counters clean at all times.
Sanitation/Dishwashing
- Prepare dishwasher for operation.
- Wash or load dishes into the machine or work at the terminal end to remove dishes, trays, and flatware.
- Restock service or preparation areas with clean dishes.
- Check dish machine for acceptable wash and rinse temperatures; report problems to manager.
- Clean dishwasher and dishroom.
- Delime dish machine weekly as scheduled by manager.
Cashier
- Prepare cash register prior to meal service.
- Take money for food and meal tickets, accurately account for each transaction; count money and verify receipts with manager.
- Record free and reduced-price meals served.
- Record charged meals.
Cleaning
- Properly clean and sanitize equipment.
- Responsible for cleaning all work areas used and the general kitchen as assigned.
- Appropriately use chemicals and cleaning supplies for safe and effective cleaning/sanitation.
Maintain a record of all food and supplies used each day. Practice safe food handling and maintain standards of health sanitation and safety as required by the State Board of Health. Operate equipment safely and efficiently. Assist with other duties as assigned by the Nutrition Services Manager and Supervisor.

- Bilingual oral skills (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Maintain composure and perform responsibilities under pressure.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
- Maintain confidentiality about students in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and district guidelines.
