Job Description
At Toyota Lift Northeast, we keep our customers' operations moving by providing industry-leading material handling equipment and exceptional service. As a Field Service Technician, you'll work independently from a company-provided service vehicle, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining forklifts and other material handling equipment at customer locations. The Field Service Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on electric and internal combustion (fuel-powered) forklifts and other material handling equipment at customer locations. This position serves as the primary point of contact between Toyota Lift Northeast and our customers, delivering timely, high-quality service while ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently.
What You'll Do- Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and test electric and internal combustion forklifts and material handling equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled service for customers under maintenance agreements.
- Inspect equipment and recommend additional repairs or maintenance when appropriate.
- Complete work orders, repair documentation, and service reports accurately and in a timely manner.
- Communicate repair findings, recommendations, and equipment status with customers and internal service teams.
- Coordinate daily service activities with the Service Coordinator and Service Manager to ensure prompt response to customer needs.
- Maintain an organized inventory of parts and supplies within the company service vehicle.
- Keep the service vehicle clean, organized, and properly maintained, including routine inspections and scheduled maintenance.
- Follow all company, OSHA, and customer-specific safety procedures.
- Properly handle and dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with company and environmental regulations.
- Maintain personal tools in safe working condition and keep work areas clean and organized.
- Assist with training and mentoring new technicians through hands-on field support.
- Deliver exceptional customer service while building strong relationships with customers.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience troubleshooting electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and the ability to learn and utilize service management software, CRM systems, and mobile applications.
- Comfortable using tablets and mobile technology to complete work orders, preventative maintenance inspections, service reports, and other required documentation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers, coworkers, and management.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple service calls.
- Ability to work independently while managing a daily service schedule.
- Demonstrates a strong sense of urgency and commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
- Ability to safely work at heights using ladders and scissor lifts.
- Ability to lift up to 70 pounds independently and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to successfully complete the company's technical certification program.
- Willingness to work overtime and participate in an on-call rotation as needed to support customer operations.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems in material handling, heavy equipment, construction equipment, agricultural equipment, automotive, diesel, or related industries.
- Technical school, vocational training, or an associate degree in diesel technology, automotive technology, industrial maintenance, or a related field is preferred.
