We are looking for Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to provide support to persons with disabilities, helping them develop and maintain skills to enhance the quality of life in the community, observe and respond to their physical, social, behavioral, career, and personal needs, advocate for their needs and serve as a link to community inclusion, and assist with daily routines.
Key Responsibilities- Provide appropriate level of supervision and training to facilitate social well‑being, health, and safety in the least restrictive environment.
- Administer medication to persons served according to medication administration procedures and required certifications.
- Assist persons served to use public transportation or provide transport to access community resources; assist with planning and implementation of daily activities that promote social inclusion and build social capital.
- Follow prescribed SJCS procedures to document supports provided, including progress toward skill acquisition, choices, health matters, achievements, and challenges.
- Attend and participate in all mandated events, workshops, training, investigations, and meetings.
- Ensure responsible usage of personal and agency resources (vehicles, property, finances, etc.).
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
- One or more years of related experience working with persons with disabilities required; experience in community‑based programs preferred.
- Must meet SJCS and funding jurisdiction current requirements for criminal background/records check.
- Valid health certificate to meet current funding jurisdiction requirements.
- Valid state‑issued driver’s license with a current driving record in good standing preferred.
- Knowledge of community resources that promote social inclusion and autonomy.
- Ability to gain working knowledge of SJCS policies and procedures.
- Ability to act as a representative of SJCS to the public.
- Effective communication and coordination skills with staff members and individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Knowledge of acceptable meal assistance and safety practices.
- Computer skills, including hardware, software, and office machines.
