GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting the head coach to ensure that the head coach can lead the team, organize and implement game plans, and foster a positive and competitive environment. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with the head coach and demonstrate an understanding of the sport.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONA minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required. Advanced education above high school is preferred.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES- Team Leadership and Development
- Develop and implement training programs to enhance player performance.
- Provide mentorship and support to players, fostering their physical, mental, and emotional development.
- Evaluate player performance and provide constructive feedback.
- Game Strategy and Planning
- Analyze opponents and develop game plans and strategies to maximize team performance.
- Make real-time decisions during games to adapt strategies as needed.
- Lead meetings/practices when asked by the head coach to review performance and plan future games.
- Team Management
- Collaborate with the head coach and other staff to ensure cohesive team operations.
- Assist with the selection of players
- Ensure all players adhere to team rules, policies, and standards.
- Communication and Collaboration
- Maintain open lines of communication with players, coaching staff, and families.
- Foster a positive and inclusive team culture.
- Performance Monitoring
- Track and analyze team and player performance metrics.
- Implement changes and improvements based on performance statistics.
- Administrative Duties
- Assist in managing the team's schedule, including practices, games, and travel.
- Ensure compliance with DIAA rules and regulations.
- Able to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships.
- Willingness to accept guidance and suggestions.
- Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Able to work independently and exercise initiative.

- Continue professional growth and development through opportunities provided by CHSD and DIAA.

Knowledge
- Must have knowledge of DIAA rules and regulations.
- Must complete training regarding Title IX and Athletics.
- Must complete Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Concussion Training every two years.
- Must be familiar with Cape Henlopen School District's Policy 118 (Prohibited Actions of Employees) & Policy 551 (Electronic Communication & Social Media Policy).

- Must be aware of relevant policies and procedures mandated by the State of DE for coaches and employees such as Criminal Background Checks, Child Protection Registry Forms & TB Tests.
- Must have experience and a detailed knowledge of online systems such as Recruiting and Hiring and Google Docs.
- Must possess online, digital skills to maintain records and to complete evaluations of coaching staff.
