This is a high-level Computer Infrastructure position. The person in this position plans, implements and supports networked solutions across multiple platforms, primarily Microsoft Active Directory and TCP/IP. This position installs and maintains LAN/WAN hardware and software and diagnoses and remediates issues with network usage and computer peripherals. This position maintains the Voice over IP (VoIP) system, e‑mail, Internet, virtual server and desktop environments, including firewalls, and switches.
This position provides guidance to the Technical Services team and works under general supervision of the Infrastructure Operations Manager.
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Coordinate activities around desktop and notebook computers and their network connections.
- Maintain and support other technology equipment and applications, including: data backup, file and application servers, printer and print servers, VMWare hosts and virtual servers, storage area networks and virtual desktops and others.
- Design, setup and install VPNs, switches, firewalls, routers and wireless networks for City‑wide, vendor and police use.
- Work with IT staff in the design, layout and installation of hardware and software for new networks and modifications to existing networks and analysis of departments' needs.
- Follow established problem resolution procedures in resolving software problems and apply corrective service to upgrade systems.
- Prepare and ensure accuracy of documentation (Procedures, troubleshooting, manuals, etc.)
- Run diagnostics, monitor systems and networks and determine and anticipate possible hardware problems and repairs. Follow established problem determination procedures in performing hardware problem analysis.
- Participate in resolving more difficult network problems and obtaining IT assistance when necessary.
- Evaluate software and tests new software; upgrades equipment and provides training to users. Perform product evaluations and make recommendations on replacing existing solutions or for new City technology.
- Assist in supplying part numbers and cost estimates for computer and peripheral purchases.
- Assist in the acquisition of computers and peripheral devices.
- Maintain Configuration Management of all City of Delray Beach infrastructure equipment, including but not limited to, servers, storage, switches, connections, routers, firewalls.
- Responsible for Load Balancing of all City of Delray Beach infrastructure equipment, including but not limited to, servers, storage, switches, connections, routers, firewalls.
- Install communications equipment and associated software.
- Maintain and implementation of all Telecommunication needs of the City of Delray Beach, including but not limited to, Legacy phone systems, circuits, billing, Unified Communications solutions, Voice over IP phone system and SIP circuits.
- Responsible for security of the City of Delray Beach network infrastructure, including but not limited to, user profiles, servers, PCs and laptops, switches, cables, and other connected peripherals.
