Macdonald & Company is proudly partnered with a vertically integrated real estate investment platform focused on the multifamily sector, to appoint a Director of Development based in South Florida.
The firm is an established owner-operator with a national footprint, actively investing across high-growth U.S. markets. With an experienced management team and a scalable operating platform, the business continues to expand through a combination of acquisitions and development, supported by disciplined investment strategies and strong operational execution.
The Director of Development will be responsible for the execution of multifamily development projects across the full lifecycle, from site evaluation and entitlement through construction, delivery, and stabilization.
Reporting to senior leadership, the Director of Development will work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and in line with underwriting and investment objectives.
Key Responsibilities- Lead project-level site analysis, financial feasibility assessments, scheduling, and budget development.
- Manage due diligence efforts across entitlements, environmental review, title, and other development-related risks.
- Coordinate planning, design, and approval processes, working closely with attorneys, architects, engineers, and consultants.
- Attend and represent the firm at municipal, zoning, and public meetings related to assigned projects.
- Create and maintain detailed development schedules from pre-development through construction, delivery, and stabilization.
- Serve as the day-to-day point of contact for internal stakeholders and external consultants, contractors, and municipalities.
- Manage project scope, budget, and timeline to ensure alignment with business plans and quality standards.
- Oversee cost tracking, change management, and budget variance reporting.
- Collaborate with Operations and Marketing teams during construction and initial lease-up phases to ensure smooth turnover.
- Coordinate with Legal to review and execute development agreements, construction contracts, and financing documentation.
- Maintain comprehensive project reporting, including construction progress, budget performance, leasing updates, and market conditions.
- Provide regular reporting and updates to senior leadership and principals on project status and key risks.
- Monitor market trends, construction costs, and regulatory changes impacting development activities.
- Support broader development and investment initiatives as needed across the platform.
- 8–12 years of full-cycle multifamily development experience with a reputable developer or institutional investment platform.
- Demonstrated success delivering multifamily projects from site evaluation through completion and stabilization.
- Strong financial and analytical skills, including development underwriting and budget management.
- Solid understanding of entitlement processes, construction management, and development risk mitigation.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, MS Project, and related development tools.
- Strong communication, organization, and stakeholder management skills.
- Detail-oriented, execution-focused professional capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
