Job SummaryFull Time, Rotate. Responsible for the assessment and insertion of vascular access lines for patients requiring an intravenous access device. Duties include coordinating the placement process, communicating with primary care nurses, providing education on care and maintenance of vascular access devices, and directing the access process and team members.
Responsibilities- Manages and coordinates the care of patients in a defined care delivery model for the placement of vascular access lines, utilizing the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation).
- Assesses and prioritizes patient care based on patient needs.
- Completes patient assessment and reassessment following hospital policy.
- Verifies patient procedural consent, ensuring compliance with physician orders and validating site/side per procedure.
- Inspects patient’s skin for rashes, bruises, lesions, old incisions, prosthesis, and implants, and assesses range of motion.
- Verifies history and physical findings.
- Questions patient about diseases, injuries, allergies, NPO status, previous procedures/surgery, and anesthetic/medication & contrast reactions, documenting prior to procedure.
- Provides a safe environment and promotes quality patient care through adherence to established standards.
- Evaluates appropriate intravenous catheter/device to support optimal outcomes.
- Demonstrates competency in placing vascular access lines using a bedside ultrasound machine.
- Reassesses the patient post‑procedure, updates the plan of care, and documents the procedure and status in nursing notes.
- Identifies opportunities for performance improvement and engages in professional growth activities.
- Contributes to the productivity and professional environment of the Special Diagnostics department.
- Education:
- Education recognized by the State of Florida as qualification for Registered Nurse licensure.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
- Experience:
- Two (2) years experience placing venous access devices.
- Three (3) years clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting preferred.
- Experience placing PICC lines preferred.
- Required Certification / Licensure / Registration:
- PICC line certification required.
- Registration and current RN state license.
- BLS. ACLS certification; PALS certification is preferred.
