Job Overview
Skilled work in the operation of equipment used to move and compact refuse at a rate required for proper operation of a Transfer Station. Employees in this class must be able to operate specialized mobile equipment including backhoes, front-end loaders, excavators, and grizzlies. This employee assists in the repair, upkeep and maintenance of any of the stationary equipment found on site including but not limited to;
heavy equipment, tractors trailers, stationary or mobile boom grapplers. Employee is responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of equipment according to a prescribed operating plan. Work requires a high degree of manipulative skill and dexterity.
The full pay range for this position is $20.41/hour $42,452.80/annually - $35.72/hour $74,297.60 annually. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Responsibilities- Operates any of the following types of equipment; front-end loaders, stationary and mobile grapplers, compactors, backhoes, and other related equipment as necessary for the daily operation of a Transfer Station.
- Inspects equipment before starting work, check lubricants, cooling system, hydraulic and electrical systems and makes minor adjustments as necessary. Reports all malfunctions to Supervisory Staff.
- Performs normal mechanical maintenance work including daily lubrication and cleaning of equipment.
- Performs various manual tasks involved in transfer station operations such as the cleaning of the drain system, grounds clean-up, etc.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Ability to safely operate, maintain, and perform minor adjustments on heavy equipment; ability to understand and carry out routine instructions.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- Ability to communicate sufficiently with the general public, peers and superiors.
- Ability to maintain records and reports as necessary for the upkeep and maintenance of site equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to do basic math in order to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Minimum eighth (8th) grade education.
- Two (2) years’ experience in heavy equipment operation.
- Any combination of experience education and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
The ideal candidate possess the education and experience listed below.
Certifications and Licenses- Valid Florida Drivers License, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A preferred.
The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and smell. The employee frequently is required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WorkEnvironment
The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
