Performs a broad range of difficult technical work in the diagnosis, maintenance and repair of all pumps, motors, mechanical machinery/equipment and wells associated with the raw water well fields, water treatment plant, re-pump stations, and lift stations. Work is performed under general direction.
EssentialJob Duties
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Perform general and major repairs on assigned City equipment as required.
- Perform preventative maintenance. Comprehensive knowledge of the construction, design, repair, and adjustment of a wide variety of specialized medium and heavy-duty equipment.
- Thorough knowledge of tools and equipment, as well as, specialized tools, gauges, machinery, and analyzing equipment used in the repair, service, and maintenance of pumps and motors.
- Ability to detect by inspection any worn, defective or improperly adjusted part of an assembly.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to keep accurate and timely records of repair and service operations.
- Performs all duties in compliance with Palm Beach County Code of Ethics.
- Maintains and repairs machinery/equipment at the Water Treatment Plant, Re-pump Stations, Raw Water Wells, and Lift Stations.
- Inspects, troubleshoots, calibrates, tests, and performs preventative maintenance and keeps accurate records.
- Use of hand and power tools, including a truck mount hoist for field repair to install/remove/repair equipment. Installs new systems, upgrades existing systems, replaces old equipment, takes readings, maintains logs, ability to read and understand plans and drawings.
- Operates a computer, maintains daily work orders, and maintains data, records, prints, and technical manuals.
- High school graduate or GED.
- Five years of experience performing master level repair in pumps and medium and heavy-duty equipment.
- Must possess a valid Florida Class 'B' CDL – Air Brake & Tanker Endorsement.
- It is the policy of the City of Delray Beach that persons having a CDL and participating in activities regulated by DOT are subject to drug testing and alcohol testing. The Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 requires alcohol and drug testing of safety-sensitive employees in aviation, motor carriers, railroad, and mass transit industries. Provisions of this policy are based upon said Act and the relevant federal regulations applicable to the Act.
As a condition of employment, The City of Delray Beach reserves the right to require all employees having a CDL and performing safety-sensitive activities regulated by DOT, to submit at any time to drug and/or alcohol testing to determine the presence of prohibited substances.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL
SKILLS:

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Exposure to extreme temperatures, electricity, height, noise, moving mechanical parts, confined spaces, vibration, slippery and wet conditions and equipment. Works alone inside and outside in various weather conditions.
