Non-Smoking
The City of Delray Beach is a Non-Tobacco Workplace. Tuesday - Friday 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM and Saturday 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM.
Responsibilities
Qualifications
- High school graduate or recognized GED.
- Two years of verifiable work experience operating backhoe, loader, forklifts, bobcat, roller, dump truck, Vac‑con truck and tack machine and other construction equipment in a related field.
Licenses, Certifications or Registrations
- Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License, Class B, CDL with air brakes and tanker endorsements or obtain it within six months of the hire date, excluding Parks Maintenance Division which requires a valid Florida Driver's License.
Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics
- Able to be on call during regular off duty hours for emergencies.
- Knowledge of principles and methods of operating a backhoe, loader, truck and other equipment.
- Knowledge of practices, methods and materials used in construction and maintenance in water/sewer network and streets maintenance.
- Knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to safety and operation of equipment.
- Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and detect problems with equipment.
- Ability to perform manual work.
- Ability to follow and understand written and oral instructions.
- Skill in cleaning and maintaining equipment.
- Skill in operating a truck and trailer for transporting equipment.
- Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy
Policy:
The City of Delray Beach reserves the right to require all employees having a CDL and performing safety-sensitive activities to submit to drug and/or alcohol testing to determine the presence of prohibited substances.

Employees are expected to respond to supervision, cooperate with guidance, maintain a professional image, report for work promptly, notify of absences per rules, adhere to time accrual rules, and maintain courteous behavior with the public and colleagues.
Physical Demands / Work Environment
Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over). Acceptable eyesight and hearing. Walking, standing, kneeling, bending, stooping, driving equipment operation. Works inside/outside in various weather conditions, dust, below ground level. Reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities.
