BOARD PRESIDENT (Policy Board Member)
Position Title:
President (Board Chair)
Term: [Insert Term Length – e.g., 2 years, renewable]
Accountability:
Reports to the Board of Directors and Members.
The President provides governance leadership to the Board and ensures effective functioning of the Board in fulfilling its fiduciary and strategic responsibilities.
Core Responsibilities Board Leadership- Chair Board meetings.
- Set agendas in collaboration with the Executive Director.
- Ensure effective decision-making processes.
- Foster respectful, culturally grounded dialogue.
- Ensure Board fulfills legal and fiduciary duties.
- Monitor adherence to bylaws and governance policies.
- Support Board performance and development.
- Serve as primary liaison between Board and ED.
- Lead ED performance evaluation.
- Ensure clarity of roles (governance vs. management).
- Ensure oversight systems are in place for:
- Financial accountability
- Legal compliance
- Conflict of interest management
- Insurance and risk mitigation
- Act as spokesperson when required.
- Represent the Centre at OFIFC meetings or community events.
- Previous governance experience preferred.
- Strong facilitation and leadership skills.
- Understanding of Indigenous governance values and community accountability.
