This is an exciting opportunity that brings together the retail grocery sector and an enhanced culinary experience. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing preventative maintenance and repairs on Material Handling Equipment (MHE) and operating a refrigeration plant. The successful candidate will assist with repairs on all equipment throughout the site, actively contribute to a positive and productive working environment, ensure proper record keeping of site equipment, conduct rack inspections, and perform all battery maintenance and repairs.

Here’s where you’ll be focusing:
  • Follow and maintain preventative maintenance schedule on all equipment and building.
  • Operation of Ammonia and Glycol Refrigeration Plant as per provincial regulations.
  • Understand Preventive Maintenance Programs such as Verisae, Capital Asset Tracking with Sobeys MSC.
  • Perform necessary repairs and PM's on all equipment and building.
  • Maintain parts inventory and re-ordering replacement parts as needed.
  • Complete all daily inspections in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Maintain site battery fleet and chargers.
  • Maintain dock doors, dock plates, and door seals.
  • Daily inspection and record keeping of refrigeration system.
  • Daily inspection and record keeping of sprinkler systems.
  • Adhere to and implement all applicable Food Safety program requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment as per company requirements.
  • Perform necessary maintenance and repairs on all Sobeys property including MHE, batteries, equipment and building.
  • Adhere and implement all applicable company safety standards. Refrigeration duties as per local legislation if applicable.
  • All other duties required to maintain the central kitchen.
What you have to offer:
  • Technical training and/or 3‑years’ experience in maintenance and repair for various types of machinery, facility material handling, and refrigeration systems.
  • 4th‑class (refrigeration) power engineer or higher, or a Refrigeration Operator Certificate, as required by provincial regulations.
  • Journeyman ticket in one of the building trades (electrician, plumbing, or millwright – preferred).
  • Experience in general technical troubleshooting of building equipment and hands‑on operating, diagnostics, and repair.
  • Understand Preventive Maintenance Programs.
  • Knowledge and experience of an Industrial Refrigeration System.
  • Knowledge and experience of Sprinkler or Fire control system.
  • Experience in a food manufacturing, warehouse, or production operations maintenance environment (preferred).
  • Experience in any of industrial forklift and pallet jack repair and maintenance, industrial battery maintenance repair and maintenance, welding, or electrical repair (preferred).
  • Excellent organizational skills with a high degree of initiative and flexibility.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel for tracking and scheduling of maintenance repairs.
  • Ability to safely use required tools to perform duties assigned.
  • Experience in use of Hot Work Permits.
  • Experience in use of Red Tag Permits.
  • Available to work overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

The salary range for this position in British Columbia is $61,000.00$83,000.00
