Position SummaryThe Shop Technician
- Heavy Equipment diagnoses problems, performs repairs, and provides preventative maintenance service on material handling equipment.
- Performs repairs and services on various types of material handling equipment and its components including, heavy duty forklifts, yard tractors, container handlers & other mobile material handling equipment.
- Performs preventative maintenance at prescribed intervals of time and repairs on various types of material handling equipment including heavy duty forklifts, yard tractors, container handlers.
- Sound knowledge of utilizing electronic manuals, use of digital voltage meters and applicable diagnostic software for repairing/servicing of material handling equipment.
- Sound knowledge of electrical and hydraulic diagnostics.
- Uses instruction manuals, wiring diagrams and hydraulic schematics to diagnose components and system failures.
- Ensures work performed is verified and the truck returned to the customer clean and operational.
- Ensures work area is clean and free of debris, oil, and grease.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Be able to self-manage administration duties, and documentation of work performed.
- College diploma and/or completion of a trade school certification or equivalent work experience.
- 3-5 years' experience as an auto, forklift, heavy equipment or truck and coach mechanic.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems of battery and Internal Combustion powered material handling equipment.
- Knowledge of electrical/hydraulics and electronic/ hydraulic principles.
- Knowledge of the use of hand tools and measuring devices.
- Knowledge of the use of electrical/electronic diagnostic tools/measurements and hydraulic diagnostic equipment.
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal, written and communication skills.
- Customer service oriented.
- Ability to be flexible and work in a fast paced and changing environment.
A Shop Technician
- Heavy Equipment will work in varying temperatures and subjected to dust, dirt, grease, and noise levels ranging from moderate to loud. Frequently works in a crouched position or on back lying on mechanic's dolly beneath mobile material handling equipment. Requires the ability to lift 50 pounds.
