Wildland Fire and Resource Technician 1/2/3 Positions in Delta Junction, Alaska
Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry & Fire Protection is recruiting multiple Wildland Fire and Resource Technician 1/2/3 positions in Delta Junction, Alaska. This position is open to all applicants.
What You Will Be DoingStarting at the Flex 1 Level, you will develop a working knowledge of fire suppression and fuels management techniques, practices, and terminology. WFR Tech 1 performs basic, well‑defined tasks under specific instruction. As you progress to WFR Tech 2 and 3, you will gain more responsibilities and duties.

Working EnvironmentLocation:
2058 Richardson Hwy, Delta Junction. Must be able to think clearly and act decisively during prolonged incidents under stressful conditions when life or property is threatened. Requires a NIMMS IC Red Card, arduous physical fitness rating, and availability to work up to sixteen hours per day for extended periods during the fire season.

Knowledge of fire behavior, ecology, prescribed fire methods, detection, prevention, suppression strategies, and integration with natural resource management. - Adaptability:
Adjust planned work by gathering relevant information and applying critical thinking to address multiple demands in a changing environment. - Computer
Skills:
Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work. - Attention to Detail:
Is thorough and conscientious when performing work. - Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving:
Uses a logical, systematic approach to address problems or opportunities, drawing on knowledge, experience, and resources as necessary.
- Must be at least eighteen years of age.
- For Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 2:
Six months of trainee or entry‑level wildland fire fighting or forestry field experience;
Red Card qualification under the National Incident Qualification System. - For Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 3:
Twelve months of wildland firefighting or forestry field experience, with at least six months at the developmental level;
Red Card qualification under the National Incident Qualification System. - All positions require completion of the Work Capacity Test at the “Arduous” level (45‑minute, 3‑mile hike carrying a 45‑pound pack).
- Must possess a valid Alaska driver’s license.
- Positions may require travel both in and out of state, stand‑by or recall status, assignments away from duty station for 14 to 21 days, flying in small aircraft, and handling hazardous materials.
- Some positions may require a commercial driver’s license with appropriate endorsements.
Wildland Fire and Resource Technician 1 – starting salary $24.21 per hour.
Wildland Fire and Resource Technician 2 – starting salary $27.25 per hour.
Wildland Fire and Resource Technician 3 – starting salary $30.80 per hour.
Education SubstitutionFor Technicians 2 and 3, completed coursework from an accredited institution in forestry, fire science, or a closely related field may substitute for six months of general field experience. No substitution for developmental experience or Red Card qualifications.
