What's the role?

The Shift Supervisor reports to the Mine General Foreman and the primary role is to be responsible for the supervision, leadership and direction of the Underground Mining Team within the Mining Services Department.

Duties include:
  • Coordinate the daily management, control and supervision of the working areas of the underground mining operations in accordance with Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations.
  • Ensure the Underground Miners understand written directions regarding mining operations and comply with the mining plan and underground designs provided by the Mining Engineers.
  • Communicate the underground production strategy for achieving the agreed daily targets of the operation and monitor, manage and review the progress with the Underground Miners on an ongoing basis.
  • Communicate the business objectives with the operations team to ensure all activities are focused on agreed outcomes.
  • Maintain close liaison with Geologists, Surveyors, Mining Engineers and Contractors to ensure mining activity is coordinated efficiently.
  • Organize and manage the shift plan as required to meet daily production and cost targets
  • Actively contribute to site safety policy and new initiatives and implement change as directed.
  • Ensure all incidents and accidents are reported, investigated and reviewed according to policy and procedure.
  • Develop a succession plan for roles within the team.
  • Undertake a full inspection of all working areas throughout the shift as required to ensure safe operations.
  • Monitor operation of equipment e.g. speeds, availability and breakdowns and report any non‑conformances or issues to the Mine General Foreman.
  • Maintain an accurate and full account of all daily mining operations, including downtime, areas mined, problems, hourly hire and incidents.

The specifics:
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience in the mining industry, preferably underground operations.
  • Computer literacy Microsoft Office, INX, etc.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to problem‑solve and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain or exceed best industry practice in all mine production tasks.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
  • Must have good comprehension of safe operating procedures, safety rules, policies, emergency procedures, and MSHA requirements.
  • Must pass a post‑offer physical and drug test, as well as a background check.

Working a 3 week on, 3 week off schedule of days, up to 12 hours a day or more at a remote campsite.
