Summary

Hours and species vary by assignment. The Employee will primarily work in one plant but may be detailed to any shift at any plant in the Denver District.
QualificationsApplicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
- Specialized experience: Experience that provided knowledge of the properties and characteristics of regulated food commodities or other products for human consumption. Examples include consumer safety inspector, food inspector, public health inspector, or similar positions involving sampling, quality control, and sanitation in a food manufacturing or production environment.
- GS‑05 Level: Minimum 52 weeks of qualifying experience with regulated food commodities (e.g., meat, poultry, fish, eggs, or pharmaceuticals). Must demonstrate proper sampling techniques, field test procedures, report writing, and communication of findings.
- GS‑07 Level: In addition to GS‑05 qualifications, at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑05, with independent routine duties.
- GS‑08 Level: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑07, with experience inspecting using the Federal Meat, Poultry, and Egg Products Inspection Acts, SSOP and HACCP principles, and performing basic mathematics and elementary statistics for sampling.
- GS‑09 Level: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑08, with duties at a more independent level including recommendations for export refusals and provision of temporary coverage at other locations.
Volunteer work through National Service programs and other organizations is considered qualifying experience.
The duties of a Consumer Safety Inspector are performed in a hazardous working environment.
