Position LocationOnsite in Fort Greely, Alaska.
Job OverviewUnder direction of the Facility Supervisor, the Fire Alarm Technician maintains all fire alarm systems. Provide daily maintenance operations for all assigned facilities, evaluate work orders, investigate and complete necessary repairs.
Responsibilities- Maintain all buildings and structures in good repair independently.
- Collaborate with other Technicians to share specialized skills related to fire systems maintenance and repair.
- Install, inspect, test, maintain and repair installed fire alarm detection and suppression systems per manufacturer specifications and NFPA standards.
- Visually inspect fire alarm equipment and replace defective components.
- Test initiating and signal circuits, detectors and system transmitters and repair as needed.
- Check pressure gauges on suppression system storage containers and recharge or replace containers. Interpret wiring diagrams to locate failures.
- Plan and layout work from blueprints, drawings, models and written instructions.
- Coordinate with other trade and warehouse personnel to identify proper materials, parts assemblies and requirements for requisitions.
- Inspect and diagnose system failures to determine corrective action.
- Perform periodic inventories and prepare material requisitions for replacement items as required.
- Support and assist department staff and trade groups in daily operations as needed or directed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Timely and cost‑effective performance of duties.
- Work with the Facility Supervisor to outline work to be completed; technician is expected to work independently.
- Adhere to guidelines established by the Facility Supervisor, Operations Management, manufacturer handbooks, NEC/NFPA/UFC codes and engineering diagrams appropriate to the trade.
- Deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner.
- Follow established safety policies and good industrial and office safety practices.
- Comply with company Standard Operating Procedures and personnel policies and procedures.
- Work well under pressure.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Four (4) years of experience in fire alarm maintenance and/or electrical field.
- NICET II Certification.
- Demonstrated ability to install, troubleshoot and repair various fire alarm systems, controls and equipment, including addressable fire alarm and suppression systems.
- Ability to successfully pass any employment background check and/or drug testing required on the contract.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance at the Secret level.
- Working knowledge of solid‑state and conventional control circuitry.
- Prior Military and/or Government base operations experience.
- Must be able to work indoors/outdoors in various temperatures.
- Position requires traveling to building sites during inclement weather. Comfortable working around exposures to hazardous materials.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Must be able to reach above head, stoop, bend, or squat periodically throughout each workday.
- Must be able to load/unload materials, tools, and equipment.
- Must be able to climb on a ladder for various work tasks.
