The Underground Miner – Mucker/Loader Operator reports to the Underground Shift Supervisor. Primary responsibilities include safely and efficiently operating underground equipment and performing various mining tasks such as loading underground haul trucks, mucking face rounds, and assisting with road work. Other duties may include operating haul trucks, nippers, powder crews, and rock pickers.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct post‑blast inspections and wash down all headings prior to commencing work.
- Muck development headings to standard.
- Perform clean‑up following a blast and maintain the condition of all roads underground.
- Perform production mucking, including tele‑remote, from stopes to muck bay.
- Accurately record haulage movements.
- Work as directed to minimize equipment down‑time and maximize productivity.
- Ensure all safety‑related activities are undertaken in accordance with Company policy and MSHA requirements, including Hazard IDs, pre‑start checks, pre‑start meetings, and incident reporting.
- Assist with fault finding and preventive maintenance.
- Assess and monitor ground conditions.
- Perform such other duties as directed by the Shift Supervisor.
- Experience in underground hard‑rock mining techniques.
- Minimum 3 years operating underground loaders/muckers – REQUIRED.
- Experience operating underground remote muckers (not essential).
- Basic mechanical knowledge.
- Good communication skills, including ability to read and speak English.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
- Ability to provide leadership and training to new team members (not essential).
- Good comprehension of safe operating procedures, safety rules, policies, emergency procedures, and MSHA requirements.
- Must pass a post‑offer physical and drug test, as well as a background check.
Work on a 3‑week on, 3‑week off rotating schedule of days and nights, up to 12 hours or more per day at a remote campsite. Expect extreme conditions, including
- extreme and changing weather
- dust, mud and varying levels of noise
- varying degrees of light and dark with artificial lighting
- confined work area
Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, Wi‑Fi, and cable TV. Cell service is available through Wi‑Fi, and the Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.
