Position: Library Assistant – Children’s Programming Focus
Location: Delta Library
Hours: Full time = 36 hours/week
Pay Range: $17.90 - $24.20/hour

Summary
Library Assistant – Youth Services provides friendly, knowledgeable, respectful, front-line customer service by developing and delivering library programs; engaging in community outreach; providing patron assistance; staffing the circulation/public service desk; providing technology instruction; and promoting a team atmosphere in the Library and Library District.

Stays close to patrons. Views the Library District through the eyes of the patron and goes out of way to anticipate and meet patron needs. Continually seeks information and understanding regarding public library trends. Recognizes, respects and addresses the diverse nature of the library’s users and community.

Responsibilities
Programming and Outreach:
Develops informative and entertaining programs by using project management and outcomes-based planning and evaluation tools. Delivers programs to audiences within the library as well as out in the community. Represents the Library District at community outreach events. Assists Communications Coordinator with recruiting attendees in order to provide benefit to patrons, to promote use of library resources, and represent the Library District to the community.

Creates book or bulletin board displays.

Patron Assistance:
Serves as the first point of contact for patrons in assistance with using library materials and information, guiding them in searching the catalog and stacks, accessing databases, and navigating the Internet. Actively promotes current Library services, materials, and activities while interacting with the public.

Circulation:
Checks in/out library materials and performs other associated circulation duties using the Library’s ILS (online catalog system), including holds, overdues, item lookups, etc. Exhibits sensitivity to customer needs and emphasizes appropriate customer privacy and confidentiality.
