Delta County is accepting applications for the position of Equipment Operator for the Road & Bridge Crusher/Hot Plant. Responsibilities include performing a variety of skilled, semi-skilled, labor, maintenance and equipment duties in mining, crushing and asphalt plant operations.
Work week is Monday through Thursday, 10 hour shifts.
GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Perform variety of skilled, semi-skilled, labor, maintenance, and construction work involving operation and maintenance of light, medium, and heavy equipment in mining, crushing and asphalt plant operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate heavy equipment in mining, washing, crushing, and making asphalt for county roads.
- Perform basic maintenance on Hot Plant/Crusher and other heavy equipment.
- Perform manual labor associated with Hot Plant/Crusher Operation.
- Mine properties including maintaining a high-wall, digging and excavating, sloping, reclaiming, removing overburden and berm, all within MSHA and Land Mine Reclamation safety and construction guidelines and regulations.
- Operate loader, feeding crusher, hot plant and high wall maintenance.
- Crush, grade and wash aggregate material for Hot Plant and general road maintenance.
- Perform preventive maintenance including oil and filter changes, greasing and lubricating, belts, lights, check and change tires, clean, maintain fluid levels, wiper blades, and other general tasks.
- Operate Hot Plant in safe manner including start-up, specification adherence, mixing of aggregate and oils; perform numerous safety and quality inspections.
- Drive water truck and spray for dust control or to achieve optimum moisture for compacted fills.
- Use dump truck to haul various materials as needed.
- Test and qualify different asphalt products as needed, recording parameters and specifications.
- Calibrate scales as necessary.
- Perform numerous welding work in the fabrication, repair and moving of conveyor belts, crushing equipment, Hot Plant, and operating equipment.
- Install and repair site signage.
- Maintain records of operational measurements, excavation, mining, material usage and production.
- Prepare and construct mine sites including surveying, cement work, road preparation, site designation, and equipment tear down and set-up.
- Occasionally may support or work on road crews.
- Use necessary equipment to perform necessary task to repair and maintain county roads.
- Repair and replace road signs, markers, reflectors, and other warning devices for road safety.
- Complete time sheets, preventative maintenance forms, safety checklists, and various reports as requested.
- Maintain and clean shop, office, bathroom, inventory, and general facilities.
- Answer phones, take and relay messages, operate radio.
- Work well with others in a cooperative atmosphere showing respect and support
- Perform other similar and related duties as assigned.
- Always maintain safe practices when at work sites, in the shop, around equipment operations, while operating equipment, moving items, and lifting.
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent
Experience:
Five years' experience in safe operation of heavy equipment or mining operations
Combination of education and experience could waive specific requirement
Licenses/Certifications:
Class A Colorado Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a current medical card required
Hiring Range:
$20.70 to $23.32 hourly without CDL A
$21.70 to $23.87 hourly with a CDL A
