SummaryThe Maintenance Technician I maintains and services the plant and mobile equipment in the scrap yard, performs preventative maintenance and routine repairs, conducts periodic safety and maintenance inspections to evaluate equipment for replacement and identify wear and damage. The technician uses technical diagrams, blueprints, and schematics to install, troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair equipment, engines, and compressors. A Maintenance Technician I orders parts needed for replacement and coordinates with service providers to complete maintenance tasks.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Maintain and service the plant and mobile equipment in the scrap yard.
- Perform preventative maintenance and routine repairs.
- Conduct periodic safety and maintenance inspections to evaluate equipment for replacement and identify wear and damage.
- Use technical diagrams, blueprints, and schematics to install, troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair equipment, engines, and compressors.
- Order parts needed for replacement and coordinate with service providers.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment; primarily loaders, shears, grapple, skid steers, forklifts, tractor/trailer, shredder, conveyor systems, hydraulic systems, PLC’s.
- Weld, grind, set up welds, and torch.
- Set up and break down machinery.
- Use a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) or work order system to track and document activities.
- Follow established safety procedures and regulations for hazardous materials handling.
High school diploma or GED. 1+ years of related experience, or completion of a trade apprenticeship or technical training. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, generally 8–12 hours per shift.
- Perform frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and reaching.
- Must be capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Work in outdoor environments in a range of weather conditions, such as heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Work in proximity to heavy machinery and high–noise environments while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Must be able to wear required PPE for extended periods.
- No budget responsibility.
- No direct or indirect reports.
- Work authorization: no sponsorship available.
