Solid Waste Customer Service Representative

Regular Full-Time Non-Exempt Vacancy

Hourly: $21.51 – $27.98 (Based on the City's 36-hour full-time workweek.)

Annual: $40,272.96 – $52,374.30

Definition

The purpose of this position within the organization is to provide administrative support and customer service within the Solid Waste Division. Work is performed under close supervision according to established procedures.

Essential Functions
  • Answer calls and assist citizens with solid waste issues; enters data into tracking software.
  • Enter data into CRW for complaints and violations of city ordinances.
  • Prepares annual tonnage reports for submission to the state.
  • Serves as a backup for Animal Control and Code Enforcement Customer Service Representatives and relays radio transmissions to field personnel.
  • Requests invoices for abated properties and submits them to Accounts Payable for payment; requests purchase orders for the Solid Waste Division.
  • Produces and mails lien letters for abated properties.
Additional Duties
  • Serves as a backup for the Code Hearing Clerk
  • Computes or performs arithmetic operations using data or information.
  • Provides information, guidance or assistance to people that directly facilitates task accomplishment; may give instructions or assignments to helpers or assistants.
  • Requires some responsibility for achieving minor economies and/or preventing minor losses through the handling of or accounting for materials, supplies or small amounts of money.
  • Uses addition and subtraction, multiplication and division and/or calculates ratios, rates and percents.
  • Responsible for guiding others, requiring frequent decisions, affecting the individual, co-workers and others who depend on the service; works in a somewhat fluid environment with rules and procedures, but many variations from the routine.
  • Handles or uses machines, tools, equipment or work aids involving some latitude for judgment regarding attainment of a standard or in selecting appropriate items.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college in communications, customer relations or closely related field.

Requires three months experience in customer service, clerical work or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses

Requires designation as Notary Public within one year of employment.
