The City of Deltona is seeking an experienced Assistant City Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of critical infrastructure projects that directly impact our growing community.

This is a high-visibility role for an engineer who wants to move beyond design and into real-world impact-working on projects that shape roads, utilities, drainage systems, and overall city development.

You will work closely with the City Engineer, consultants, developers, and the public to ensure projects are delivered on time, compliant, and aligned with the City's long-term vision.

DEFINITION

Under general supervision of the City Engineer, performs complex professional, analytical work requiring considerable independent judgment in providing office and engineering support in plan review and field engineering support for environmental, water, wastewater, streets and drainage and other utility projects and programs ensuring technical competence and compliance with all current codes and criteria. Performs related work as directed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Not all-inclusive)

Manages engineering consultants in the investigation, development, design and construction of municipal projects.

Reviews and recommends the approval of plans and specifications for streets, drainage, water, sewer, and reuse installation, sidewalks, and other municipal improvements.

Coordinates implementation of capital improvement projects and ensures projects are on schedule

Communicates with the public, contractors, developers, project engineers, and owners to provide information and direction in the coordination of City project design and construction.

May review development projects to ensure conformance with City regulations; reviews plans; interprets deeds, plats and right-of-ways.

May prepare plans, specifications and cost estimates of proposed City projects.

Visits construction sites to determine job progress and specification or code compliance.

Performs related work as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field; supplemented by 3 to 5 years previous experience and/or training that includes design, construction and permitting experience. This position also requires experience with fiscal, operations and personnel responsibilities; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES

Highly preferred Florida Registered Professional Engineer (PE) certification or the ability to obtain registration within six (6) months of employment. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License. Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Local Agency Program (LAP) certification preferred or the ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of employment.
