Night Shift Registered Nurse - Deltona Emergency Department (Charge Nurse)
The Charge Nurse provides supervision and leadership to the assigned nursing care unit for the shift worked. They are accountable for all nursing activities in the area, which includes, but is not limited to, the effective delivery of safe, competent, compassionate, and efficient care. This position requires ensuring that care is provided in a multidisciplinary approach. The Charge Nurse completes staffing and nursing assignments for the current and oncoming shift, participates in hourly rounding, and ensures compliance.
The Charge Nurse is the on‑the‑ground leader (front line person) who has the responsibility and capability to assess day‑to‑day situations and initiate the actions needed to address issues s role has direct responsibilities that are both clinical and operational in nature. The Charge Nurse must ensure that services are provided within the philosophy and objectives as well as the policies and procedures of Halifax Health.
Additional responsibilities include delegating to and overseeing the activities of unlicensed assistive personnel and licensed practical nurses. The Charge Nurse will ensure that nursing care is in accordance with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice Nursing and as defined by the Florida Board of Nursing. This individual will be a key participant in the service line and understands their responsibilities toward the growth of that line.
- Currently licensed or eligible for RN licensure in the State of Florida.
- Bachelor's Degree (BSN or healthcare related) required, or enrolled in a BSN program.
- Minimum of 5 years of recent clinical experience.
- One (1) year of previous charge experience required.
- Specialty certification required per department (ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, etc.).
- Experience with the Meditech program preferred.
- Professionalism in interpersonal communication skills with patients, patient families, colleagues, physicians, and ancillary department personnel required.
