qualifications: applicant must be highly qualified which requires one of the following and a complete application on file to be eligible for the position:
- associate’s degree
- 48 specific college credit hours as listed by nm state statute
- passing of the paraprofessional test (which will be scheduled after a person is offered the position)
job summary:
under general direction, providing progressive opportunities for the use of library materials/services and motivating students’ interests by providing a supportive library environment.
essential duties and responsibilities- check library materials out and in, including books, audio and visual materials and computer software.
- shelve returned materials.
- assist students in locating materials of interest to them and provide research materials.
- assist students in finding materials for the accelerated reader program.
- assist teachers in identifying and locating materials.
- repair damaged books.
- send out past‑due notices.
- conduct audiovisual storytelling sessions for students.
- record new books in the library database; maintain database and card filing system.
- place barcodes and cards in books for circulation.
- maintain the library in an orderly manner.
- monitor student behavior in the library.
- inventory library materials.
- perform data entry regarding students and staff into the library database.
- may perform minor maintenance and repair of audio/visual equipment.
- order books and other materials.
- may assist teachers in the classroom.
- prepare reports on library activity.
- remove old materials from circulation.
- computer knowledge: microsoft word and power point.
- internet knowledge.
- tutor students as assigned.
- may supervise students at lunch recess.
- monitor various accounts of funds for library materials.
- perform related duties as assigned.
- ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- ability to write reports and correspondence.
- ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
- ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
