qualifications- bs or ba; ma in special education preferred but not required
- valid/current new mexico teaching license with appropriate endorsement preferred but not required
- experience and knowledge of district special education iep procedures/regulations required
- perspective of serving each student’s individual needs; preference given to those with these qualities even without a special education degree
facilitate the implementation and delivery of special education services and documentation at assigned school site(s) to ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines and district policies.

performance responsibilities- schedule iep meetings 3-4 weeks in advance; urgent meetings less than 2 weeks limited to emergencies
- coordinate scheduling of diagnosticians and district ancillary staff using the district calendar
- invite all appropriate iep team members in a timely manner and ensure attendance for entire meeting
- keep teachers in classroom by minimizing meeting length and providing draft documents beforehand
- complete iep documents per state and federal regulations and district policy
- facilitate iep meetings, ensuring parents have voice in decisions
- ensure prior written notice edited to meet regulatory requirements
- complete required paperwork for director of special student services or building administrator
- maintain positive relationships with staff, ancillary staff, and case managers
- liaise between parents, students, staff, and district for communication and relationship building
- meet all required reporting timelines
- pick up/return all files from the office of special education daily
- manage caseload of students as assigned
- oversee modifications and accommodations required by each student’s iep
- oversee site special education programs and report concerns to building administrator or director
- ensure progress reports from school staff submitted on time; report difficulties to site administrator
- provide staff with support on special education issues
- verify that all ieps and evaluations are current and compliant; maintain files and confidentiality
- attend facilitator meetings and trainings on current regulations and policies
- use special education office staff as resources for questions or issues
- hold informational meetings for site special education staff under supervision of administration
- review and assign caseloads to school site staff as directed by administration
- be available to students and parents outside instructional day as needed under reasonable terms
- maintain and improve professional competence
- attend staff meetings and serve on committees appropriate to school or district
- provide resources to parents to support child health and education
- collaborate with outside therapists and government agencies per transition guidelines
- complete all duties assigned (morning, lunch, bus) by school site
- all other duties as assigned
performance evaluated per administrative procedures and contractual protocols; primary evaluator building administrator; secondary evaluator director of special education.
